Learning into Liberation is a free monthly space of mutual learning, outside of the formal structures of education, to collectively, with all GM SC partners, explore oppressive systems of capitalism, colonialism, and patriarchy, and how they show up in our minds and bodies.
In this space, we are coming together to co-learn and unlearn the systemic oppressions that are present in our minds and bodies and shape how we think, feel, and move through the world. The goal of the space is to explore our own pathways to liberation and freedom. It might feel small, conflict may arise, but you can also expect transformation, deep relationships, and nurturing care there.
Six months ago, Learning into Liberation began as a small online gathering for temporary stewards, facilitated by Rachael Gibbons and Emily Vickers. After harvesting the views of partners during the GM SC Forums this autumn, we are excited to relaunch this space with Rachael and open it to all partners. This will help to cultivate GM SC’s shared vision for the future.
This isn’t a space to be given knowledge; it’s a space to bring what you already know and explore what you don’t. We will attempt to diffuse hierarchies in knowledge and learning, so all participants are welcome to take on a facilitator role in a session or contribute in their own way.
Each session will be on a Wednesday between 9:30 am and 4 pm, they will be in person, in Manchester. Below is the list of topics we are thinking of covering:
- 18th of December, The Charity Industrial Complex: How can we move beyond being ‘stuck’ in the relentless quest for money and funding
- 15th of January, Capitalism and Neoliberalism: What are we resisting, and why?
- 19th of February, Building a Culture of Collectivism: What lessons can we learn from the past to create our collective future?
- 12th of March, Care as an act of Liberation: how are we with each other on this journey?
