Decisions from April 2025: building the foundations of the network

In April 2025, the Temporary Stewards came together to start the foundations of how we organise as a network. These early choices will help start GM SC as a members-led network, where members will make decisions and implement them together.

Members Meetings
We’ve agreed to hold at least four GM SC Members Meetings per year. These will be spaces for reflection, discussion, decision-making and connecting with each other.
Core decisions affecting the network will be held during these meetings. If something needs a quicker response, we’ll need to agree on an online mechanism for quicker decision-making too. Some decisions may also be delegated to specific roles or circles later on by members.

For these meetings to be accessible, we agreed to budget up to £50 per organisation for travel, childcare, and other access needs.
And for everyone’s voice to be heard, we agreed that a maximum of 2 people per organisation will be able to attend.

Circles and organising groups
Members will be able to self-organise into circles or organising groups, each focusing on specific areas of work or interest. Any 3 members from different organisations can start a group accessible to all members. Some existing circles, like the cross-borough collaboration (previously known as Islands of Sanctuary), IDS, Food Sovereignty, and Economic Justice, might continue as part of the GM SC network.

Groups can request funding or support from the wider network, and may have their own Social Change Nest budget lines if needed.

Roles
Viv, Afshan and Virginie presented a draft proposal for a team of 6 Weaving roles based on discussions from the Forums. After reviewing it, the Temporary Stewards were not able to reach a consensus. They asked the volunteers to draft a new proposal this time for 3 general roles. Some also expressed strong resistance regarding holding elections for those roles.

A new meeting has been scheduled for May to agree on roles and how they will be appointed.
