Where we’re up to
At the last forum, we agreed that GM SC is now a members-led network, with a shared vision and mission. It was also decided that members will meet at least 4 times a year for Members’ Gatherings, and will be able to:
- Make decisions about the network
- Learn and unlearn together
- Start and join organising circles
- Connect and support each other
- Appoint members of the Weaving Team (previously called SMORS).
Since then,
The Temporary Stewards have been working on the next steps in the transition to members’ leadership, including defining roles and responsibilities to support the network. However, we have been unable to reach a consensus in the time we had.
To ensure these decisions are the most suited for the network, we’ve decided that they will be shaped and decided by all members during Members’ Gatherings. So to help shift GM SC from being held by Temporary Stewards, to being collectively held by all of us as members actively sharing power, we’ve decided to appoint a short-term ‘Transition Team’.
We acknowledge that this is different from what we agreed at the last forum, and it means the process will take longer than planned, but we believe it should enable all of us to be part of deciding what is needed.
The Transition Team will be Afshan, Virginie, and Viv, who have been holding much of the behind-the-scenes process over the past year. This team will hold weaving responsibilities for now and facilitate the first Members’ Meetings, which we estimate should take around 6 months, but will be guided by the speed of the membership. All other temporary steward roles will end as planned at the end of May.
We also agreed to organise a launch event, which we hoped to have in May, but will now be held in June – see below for more details.
Next steps
The GM SC Launch event will be on Thursday, 19th of June 11am-2pm. This is a chance to welcome all the new members, answer any questions, and celebrate starting this next chapter together, so please save the date!
Our first full Members’ Meeting will take place on Thursday, 10th of July 10am-3:30pm, and we’d love for as many members as possible to be there.
